PulsTech

The PLUG Association has been active for several years in the Pignola area, a small town on the outskirts of Potenza. Throughout our work and participation in local initiatives, we observed a significant gap in the technological skills required by the contemporary labour market. Many young people in our association—and more broadly within the Pignola community—lacked familiarity with essential applications, online platforms and digital tools needed for job searching, professional communication, project planning and teamwork.

This shortage of digital competence is closely linked to another major social challenge affecting new generations: youth unemployment. Although widespread across Italy and several European countries, unemployment is particularly severe in small, peripheral areas such as Pignola. We believe there is a direct correlation between limited knowledge of innovative technologies and high unemployment rates, as digital competencies are increasingly required during job recruitment and in professional environments.

For this reason, we developed the project idea “PulseTech”, aiming to provide young people with a digital boost towards the world of work. Through play-based activities and non-formal learning methods, participants will acquire fundamental digital skills that they can apply both in professional contexts and in everyday life.

     The needs identified include:

  • Lack of technological skills among youth

  • Limited spirit of initiative

  • Weak integration of young people within local social networks

  • Rising youth unemployment

Based on these needs, the project pursues the following objectives:

  • Strengthen young people’s knowledge of technological tools

  • Foster greater initiative and entrepreneurial thinking

  • Enhance youth inclusion in local social networks

  • Support young people in their job-seeking process

  • Promote the use of digital technologies for business ideas and employment

The name “PulseTech” reflects our intention to give young people a “digital pulse,” encouraging their active participation in the labour market. The project will place particular emphasis on including youth with fewer opportunities—especially those facing geographical or economic obstacles—who are at higher risk of social exclusion and reduced access to employment and personal development.

Aligned with the Erasmus+ Programme and European Union priorities on equal opportunities, inclusion, diversity and equity, the project will equip participants with concrete skills that enhance their access to social networks and local employment opportunities. It will also empower them to share what they learn, promoting wider community engagement and inclusive practices.

Using non-formal learning methods, the project will involve young people in thinking, planning and implementing activities following a “learning by doing” approach. The personal and emotional dimension of the exchange will further support meaningful and long-lasting learning. Through this youth exchange, PLUG and its partners aim to actively involve young people facing the identified challenges, encouraging their long-term engagement in their local communities.
